This book was well balanced, I almost had nothing to say at the end of it. In fact, this might possibly be the shortest book review I will ever write. Maybe part of that has to do with the fact that the book is small. I listened to the audio book which was 4 hours 50 minutes long, and some time in the future I will get to read the iPad version as a refresher too. It’s a sober approach to agape love, a love between God and man. You can almost feel how the author is trying to grip at words to show you how vast God‘s love is and at times does so by showing you how insignificant humans are. I love the journey Francis Chan takes you through to show you the magnitude of God‘s love.

I love the way he augments the book with online videos in certain places to illustrate what might be lost in words or simply take too long explain. This kept me engaged, and I had a visual exactly as the one the author wanted me to have, and where he needed it pictured. That being said, those who don’t have internet access, you’d be surprised how many, to watch that video will be missing a potentially vital part to enhance the book’s message. I still love that they thought out of box and gamified the book.

Isn’t it a comfort to worship a God we can’t exaggerate? – Francis Chan

I also loved that in the audio book the author narrated his own book, I think that just took it up a thousand notches. It’s hard to pick where the book shines but it was healthy taking the test or self assessment to see whether or not I was lukewarm or crazy in love with God. The author was gentle where necessary and harsh where necessary, and that to me embodies real love. If anything I would have loved to see how the author views the Holy Spirit fitting in love as they were clearly vocal about God and Jesus but were quite sparing when it came to the Holy Spirit, only being mentioned in passing. God sent us his son out of love, and Jesus His son sent us the Holy Spirit another counsellor out of love and that is why I feel the picture was incomplete.

If there was ever a book written about what a person should look like when they are crazy in love with someone, this is a book about what a person should look like when they are crazy in love with a God that is already in love with them.

You should read this book:

  • If you are a human being, simply put.
